To My Sister
Posted 04.01.2008, at 02:26:37 AM
Part of the "Notes of the Past" series.

Hello, Big Sister. How are you?

I met you nearly five years ago on a forum that I was directed to by a person who would screw me over not two months later. In fact, the only reason I ever spoke with you that first time was to get in touch with someone you knew who could help me. Maybe, per chance, we were supposed to meet? Who would have known the history that formed between us since then?

I have to say, you have been one of the single most influential people in my life. Never before you was there a person whose opinion I valued so greatly, and few before you have I ever cared for so deeply. To say the least, you cause a huge change in me, in how I think and how I act.

Before meeting you I had no order in my life. I could not handle stress, I did not know how to react to problems, and I did not know how to trust people (truly trust them). I didn't know how to care for someone who wasn't my family, and I had no idea how to define when a friend becomes my family.

You taught me how to calm down and how to just do it rather than sit and cycle over an idea. You taught me how to rely more on my own abilities rather than on others insight, and that has allowed me to learn far more than I ever would have if I always asked others questions rather than asking myself questions.

Before meeting you, I had never met anyone in the real world who I had known originally on the Internet. Meeting you was one of the most insightful and amazing events in my life because I learned that I can trust people. You accepted me as I am without question, and I don't think you know exactly how amazing that was to me.

You have been there for me when I was at my lowest, and you always told me how things were without any bullshit. You took an active interest in my physical and mental health when no one else in my life would, and I needed that. I needed someone like that to make it through some of these past years. I am so very thankful for that.

I have also been there for you at some of your lowest lows. Again, the timing has always been perfect, thinking back to July of 2005.

We have a connection that I never experienced with anyone else before. We are family, and I will always take care of you the best that I can. And I know that you will do the same for me.

Our history is still being written, and I can't imagine either of us ever becoming distant.

I love you, big sister. The things you have done for me have changed my life, and I don't think I will ever be able to thank you enough.

Have a great day, Sister!
